Sister Lorraine

My sister turned 50 years old and I wanted to do a portrait of her for her big day. As I have mentioned before, my vector style is influenced by Von Glitschka, a fountain of info, tutorials, reference files, textures, patterns, goofy puns and 5 or 6 websites. This is a mix of Von's process and my process, but in a nutshell:

a. Lorraine reference photo

b. Line art drawn on vellum drafting film, then scanned in

c. Von Glitschka style shadow study and render ideas

d. Base colors, hilites and shadows (skin tones were eye droppered right from a Von's cartoon fixup project)

e. Lorraine is big into animal print, but this just didn't work

f. Went with the little black dress and cleavage

g. My wife mentioned the cleavage was a little much, so I backed that off some, then tried my hand at a Von Glitschka style pattern in the background with a jungle theme. Of course, now he comes out with a pattern tut !!

And finally the payoff . . . it was Halloween of course !!
